A RUFARM woman is a poor farmer living in rural Nigeria or a petty trader in the city. She is a poor woman with dependants, barely literate and has no access to credit.

(b) Poor women are disadvantaged and do not benefit from the services of formal financial institutions.
(c) The socio-economic situation of the poor would improve if credit is added to support their physical labour and skills.
(d) Poverty is reinforced by factors such as large family size, malnutrition, ignorance, diseases.
(e) Small groups have tremendous influence on co-operating individuals.
